Good productivity is a sweet thing that brings immense satisfaction. But, there are so many little things that we do which harm our productivity. If you simply eliminate those, our productivity will simply shoot up in its quality.

Crossing out all the important activities from our to-do list as done is threatened by many things that we do unknowingly. They are the things that need to be eliminated to ensure a productive and successful day.

Talent and abilities alone cannot make you successful.

The secret to success in found in the daily habits.  Recognizing bad habits and eliminating them is as important as recognizing and nurturing the good ones.

Here are five of those terrible things you may be doing that robs your productivity. If you find out you are doing any of these, stop it immediately and see how your productivity starts to flourish.

Being online all the time

The internet is a magical jungle where many treasures and traps are hidden. When the savvy ones find treasures, the mindless ones get trapped in the whirlpool of social media, chatting, forums, commenting on things that do not help anyone etc. The internet is the biggest boon of our times. And, if we are not cautious how we spend our time in the seductive jungle of hyperlinks, we may very well lose all our productive time.

If you are online all the time involved in social media, commenting, chatting, forums and discussions that take you nowhere; you are using your time and internet in a non- productive manner. If you are doing so, stop it right now. Sign out from all the interactions that do not help you grow, learn or take you to the next level. Either stop it completely, or spend fixed time for being available for online interactions.

Being available to everyone all the time

This is a monstrously destructive habit that trashes all your daily plans and leaves you with zero productivity. This creates a lowly impression about you and makes you their personal attender. You are born to help others in a much more meaningful, fulfilling way.

Be the master of the time given to you in this amazing planet. And do not assist other people all the time. Be discreet and find out how to delegate other people’s request or refuse to spend your precious time on things that does not help your goal.

Being available to everyone all the time gives away your own power over your own time to others, who may mostly misuse it. If you do not value your time, who will?

Helping, assisting and sharing your knowledge is a golden deed, indeed. And one must do that for the truly needful, always. But do not let that get in the way of your productivity. Chart time in your calendar for assisting others and find a balance. We all need each other, but we must not let anyone be a time-parasite.

Ignoring your side projects

Side projects are superb palette cleansers. When too much time is obsessively spent on one main project, your brain might go numb. That is when the side projects are important.

Bring in small projects that are fun and interesting. The problem areas of your major projects will find new solutions during the process.

Our brain works in mysterious and miraculous ways. When you give it a break from something you have been working hard on, the problem you are working on will be taken over by your subconscious mind or the big mind. Innovative and surprising answers for the questions of the major project, that might have tormented you, will suddenly pop up.

Since they are ‘side’ projects, the failures will not be taken too hard by you, and the successes in it will give your a much appreciated boost for your major projects.

Skipping meals

Not the greatest and the most sophisticated device will function if there is no consistent supply of energy. It is the same with the most important device you have been gifted with by nature- your body.

Our body is impermanent and fragile. That is why we must take extra care of it. As we cannot follow our dreams as ghosts, we must take good care of our body.

Skipping meals is the easiest way to derail our health. And there is no place for planning, working towards your goals and being productive if you are not healthy.

Medical experts say that, if we do not supply our body nutritious food, the body will start to eat itself- it will start making energy breaking down our own cells. Eventually energy levels will go down, muscles will get weak and your dreams of being productive will be flushed out.

So give the greatest priority for having nutritious  food at regular intervals. Allot time for your food and do it with no compromise. Because it is not an indulgence, but a duty towards your own body and well being.

Skipping sleep

Good quality sleep and excellent productivity go hand in hand. Ayurveda lists sleep as one of the four major prerequisites for good health.

Sleep not only gives our body, much needed & deserved rest after a long tiring day, it also recharges our brain and transforms the information gathered during daytime to a permanent form which will be accessible later.

Skipping sleep makes a person tired, sluggish and slow. Skipping sleep is the nemesis of productivity. You need your body and mind to be super charged & energetic to be productive. For that, you need  good quality sleep.

So, never skip sleep imagining that you are being productive. You are actually compromising your productivity by not giving enough rest to your body and mind.

 

Most of the above mentioned habits that harm your productivity are formed unknowingly, over a period of time. Observe yourself, if you are harboring any of those negative tendencies in your personality and life. If you find them, there is no need to judge yourself harshly, but simply remove them.
