8 Things Self lovers do at Night Before Bedtime

Louise Hay, in her book You Can Heal Your Life explains that loving yourself is the fountainhead of all happy experiences in life. Here are 8 night time rituals for everyone who wish to practice self-love. If you make a statement to yourself by affirming the unending self love, especially at night, it will sink deep into your subconscious and heal you in many levels.

Ayurveda counts sleep as one of the four important bodily function that keeps us healthy. As many rejuvenating activities happen in our bodies when we are sleeping, certain practices will help us to make the most of it.

Mostly our days are a mixture of pleasant and unpleasant events. No matter how good or bad the day went, no matter how terrible or tired you feel, spend some time doing at least some of the following things for rekindling the happiness and self-love in you.

Pamper yourself lavishly. You deserve it.

 1.Massage your feet with oil

Our feet is filled with several important nerve endings. Redundant modern lifestyle gives little movement to these tender and hard-working muscles.

Applying light pressure under feel with oil assures a good night’s sleep. Ayurveda prescribes to massage your feet with mildly warm oil as a cure for insomnia. Moreover, it has a cooling effect on head and eyes. Regular foot massage also lowers the blood pressure.

Massage your whole feet with any oil that you prefer. Immerse the oil container in warm water for sometime if you like the oil warm. Mildly warm oil is the best. You may also add a few drops of lavender oil for a relaxing mood. Play some soft music if you want

You can choose coconut oil or olive oil for massaging.  Virgin coconut oil and extra virgin olive oil  also will work wonders for you mood and overall health. And your feel will become baby soft if you do this daily.

Feel pampered and loved at night. It will reach to the inner realms of your spirit and you will feel your self-love.

 2. Write your journal or diary

Journal writing has time and again proven to be one of the best forms of expressions to vent out thoughts that clog and block the mind. There are several types of journals you can keep.

Anytime journal, Night journal, Morning Pages etc are just some of them. Find out which one suits you the best or try out each of them for sometime to find out what works best for you.

Write whatever that comes to your mind in the journal. Do not edit as you go. Let the stream of your consciousness flow uninterruptedly. Express your dreams, write about your current challenges. Also write if you are thinking of some way to overcome those challenges. Remember to keep it safe and secret so that you will feel free and confident to pour your whole mind into the pages.

Journaling will help you to declutter your mind. It will also free you from the incessant cyclic thoughts that use up most of your energy whilst delivering nothing productive.

Once these cluttering thoughts are registered in the pages, you will eventually become free from them.

 3. Meditate and center yourself for a few minutes

Meditation is one of the best ways to quieten the constant chatter of mind and get in touch with your root self. There are several practices that come under the broad umbrella term of meditation, that makes you to center yourself inducing relaxation. Mindfulness meditation, Yoga Nidra, Shavasana etc are just some of them.

Mindfulness meditation plants you in the nowness of the moment. You become the witness of everything happening in front of your senses, thus detaching yourself from identifying yourself with the events surrounding you. Mindfulness is proven to have increased serotonin production, intuition, happiness and general wellness.

Yoga Nidra, on the other hand is a powerful ancient yogic technique that sends the whole body into deep relaxation which is not attained even during deep sleep. If properly done Yoga Nidra can alter and heal your psyche, changing your whole life. The sankalpa or intention placed deep in the subconscious mind during the process of Yoga Nidra, can even help to eliminate deep-seated insecurities and addictions.

Shavasana or corpse pose is a yogic pose that induces relaxation to the whole body. The whole body is relaxed from toe to head, one muscle after the other and the position is maintained for as long as required. Several visualizations too can be incorporated with this exercising imagination. This pose is proven to lower blood pressure and anxiety, if practiced regularly.

4. Jot down and review the activities you did that day towards achieving your goal

Our lives may be filled with multiple things that we must attend diligently and dutifully. Most tend to forget their personal and professional goals while doing that. Writing and reviewing your personal and professional goals will anchor you in the right place of action. It will help your goals to not drown in the multitude of other things you must do in life.

So, take a notebook, or open an excel sheet and write down your daily goals and plans. If this becomes a habit, then eventually you will reach there, were you always want to.

 5. Feeling grateful for all the blessings in life

Counting your blessings and anchoring yourself in feelings of gratitude will increase happiness and peacefulness. It will put the whole experience in perspective and remind you that things are not as bad as you might think. It will focus your attention towards the goodness experienced in life and open the possibility for greater happiness.

Keeping a gratitude journal is one of the methods employed by many to affirm the feelings of gratefulness. When we are grateful, we release the ego and open ourselves to the huge love of the universe that is reaching us through infinite ways. We also remember to appreciate the seemingly insignificant but the greatest pleasures of life and take care of them.

Spend sometime counting your blessings, and feeling grateful for them as it will open up the infinite love of universe towards you. It is already there, you just need to open it with gratitude.

6. Reading something that fills your mind with good energy

The last thought or emotion we have while we fall asleep dictates the entire sleep cycle. If we are in a foul mood when we are falling asleep, the mood will sink into our subconscious and cause havoc. And if we make it a habit to go to sleep after filling our mind with pleasant good thoughts, it will seep into our being making us happier and calmer when we wake up.

So, listen to some pleasant audio or read some thing that fills your mind with positivity.

 7. Writing and chanting affirmations for a while

Affirmations are packets of happiness inducing thoughts that will replace the negative and damaging thoughts that circle in your mind. We all have habitual thought patterns that we have picked up from the environments that we were exposed to into, in the past, from family, friends, schools and workplaces and media. They control our behavior and decisions from a hidden level of mind. We wont even be aware of their existence till we examine them with conscious awareness practices.

Choose one affirmation or a group of affirmations and repeat them with full awareness. In the beginning, you may feel foolish or like lying to yourself. That is because of the firmness of the negative patterns in you. Slowly, it will start feeling comfortable and then you will start noticing that things are not as bad as you may imagine them to be.

Write , chant or do both according to your convenience. But doing both in the beginning is highly recommended for erasing the deep-rooted damaging patterns in your mind.

 8. Visualize your dream life for sometime

Visualization is one of the best mind tools to keep yourself focused in what you want to achieve. Visualization will help you to think and imagine the details of that you plan to achieve. It is a fun process that takes the pressure of and makes the pleasure on. Enjoying the process and playing along is the key here. Thus you will associate joy with the goal.

In her book Creative Visualization, Shakti Gawain proposes several methods to successfully visualize and materialize your desires.

The images of the desires that sink into our subconscious mind while visualizing, will control our thoughts, choices and decisions from there. So, we will start automatically taking steps towards achieving what we want as it is so familiar to us and not alien. This familiarity lifts the halo of impossibility that might be associated with our dreams coming true.

So, take some time to visualize your dreams and feel connected to your path every night. To aid visualization, use a visualization journal and add in the details you find popping up in your mind.

Try all these methods or select some of them to affirm your self-love. Love yourself away!

XOXO
